Input

OS:

🪟 Windows

Input reports recent input in a user session. It is available on session selectors when watchInput is enabled. It is not available on a Process element.

The following attributes control the metric:

watchInput

default:

true

Includes input activity in session inspection. This setting can be specified on the monitor or overridden by a selector. When disabled, the Input metric is unavailable; do not reference it in a watch expression. Other metrics and nested process watches remain available.

watchInputRemote

default:

false

When false, an attached remote client counts as input activity regardless of how long ago the last input occurred. When true, remote sessions are subject to the input timeout as well.

Duo instances enable remote input tracking by default; see Configuration.

watchInputDisconnected

default:

false

When true, recent input can still count after the session disconnects. When false, a disconnected session contributes no input activity. Its process activity can still keep it active.

maxLastInputTime

⏱️ duration:

default:

inspection interval

The maximum age of the last input that counts as activity. An explicit duration, such as 10min, sets an independent input timeout without changing the inspection interval.

These settings are inherited from SessionMonitor by each selector.

Example

This configuration combines recent input with storage activity across all processes in the selected session:

<SystemMonitor version="3" timeout="2min" onUsage="sleepless" onIdle="sleep">
  <SessionMonitor>
    <User name="^Smith$" watchInput="true" watchInputRemote="true"
          maxLastInputTime="10min" minIO="100kb/s" watch="Input or IO" />
  </SessionMonitor>
</SystemMonitor>

The session counts as active after recent input or sufficient storage activity. The ten-minute input timeout is checked during regular inspection; it does not change the two-minute inspection interval.

A nested process provides an independent activity signal:

<User name="^Smith$" maxLastInputTime="10min">
  <Process name="Backup" minIO="100kb/s">backup</Process>
</User>

Here, a busy backup process keeps the session active even when the session’s own input metric is false. See Watch expressions.
